-Health Fair
This free health fair provided resources, information, and health screenings for all ages!
The Arkansas Department of Health and UAMS set up their mobile health units outside the library. The AR Department of Health conducted screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar/glucose, and others. Additionally, UAMS administered free COVID and flu vaccinations, along with screenings for blood pressure, A1C, height, and weight.
I coordinated the Children's Department section for this project, where we organized a Tooth Fairy Storytime! A princess was hired to read books and engage in activities with the children.Kids received a goodie bag containing dental stickers, a recommended book list for doctor's office visits (including books in Spanish), a dental travel kit comprising a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss, and a complimentary book courtesy of Arkansas PBS. Additionally, a scavenger hunt was organized in the Children's Department, prompting participants to search for images of items typically found in a doctor's office to earn a keychain or a water bottle sticker (100 children completed this activity in April). Furthermore, we curated a display featuring children's books centered around health, which remained up for a month.
A team comprising two librarians and the SPL Marketing director initiated planning five months in advance. Tasks included contacting community partners, marketing the event, and procuring necessary resources. The fair garnered early enthusiasm from the community and participants alike, and it was a totally sucess!
